Set up in 1989, Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC, Ministry of Communications and IT, Govt. of India) Mohali (Erstwhile CEDTI Mohali) has relentlessly pursued its mission of providing state-of-the-art infrastructure for training of specialized manpower in the fields of electronics and computer industry, product design & development, entrepreneurship development, and interaction with industries, R&D and academic institutions.
C-DAC, Mohali is the first ISO 9001 – 9002 certified scientific society under Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India. The Centre having a covered area of approximately 4300 sq. mtr. is located in the ELTOP (Electronics Town of Punjab) Complex amidst a large number of industries manufacturing electronics product relating to computers, peripherals, communication and Information technology.
The Centre, at present, offers courses relating to Enterprise Networking, CADD Engineering, Bio-medical Equipment Technology & Maintenance, Systems Maintenance Engineering, Programming of PLCs & Drives, Product Design and Technology, Telecommunication Systems, PC & Peripherals Technologies, Power Electronics, PCB Technology, CAD/CAM, Animation and Multimedia, Web design Technologies, Computer Graphics and so on.
Over the years, C-DAC Mohali, Ministry of Communications and IT, Govt. of India has diversified its activities to address requirements in various areas of Information Technology. C-DAC Mohali is active in five Thematic Research Areas:
- Health Informatics
- Professional Electronics including VLSI and Embedded systems
- Software Technologies including Open Source Software
- Cyber Security and Cyber Forensics
- Multilingual Computing and Heritage Computing
The activities cover projects on Health Informatics including telemedicine, e-Governance, e-Security, BOSS / Linux Server, Language technology, Black Box for automobiles and developing use of RFID for file tracking.
