BRIEF DESCRIPTION


All of us are aware of the increasing rate of road accidents occurring everyday. Major advances in automobile engineering have provided us with good performance vehicles, but that do not provide any information about the circumstances in which accident occurred. We do have the provision of “Black Box” in airplanes to help us to study and know of the conditions and circumstances in which the airplane was before the accident occurred.
But there has been no step towards providing the same in motor vehicles run on road, where the rate of accidents are much more as compared to accidents in air. For this reason, C-DAC, Mohali has come up with a project proposal to provide a “Black Box” for automobiles on road. It would have facilities like speed detection, alcoholic, smell detection, overload detection and the system will be packed in a small unbreakable box, so that it remains safe even after the accident.
This product would enable us to judge the conditions in which the vehicles was being driven, both from the point of view of driver who was driving the vehicle and the investigating/ controlling agency in case of accident. All this study would help us in preventing accidents to a considerable extent.
This product would be of lot of use to traffic police, transport department and also for automobile manufacturing companies.

MAIN FEATURES
  1. Monitor start and stop time.
  2. Monitor speed at regular intervals.
  3. Check breadth of driver for presence of alcohol vapours.
  4. Overload detection.
  5. Checks the level of brake oil.
  6. Monitors the engine temperature.
  7. Provision for detecting steering rod coming off.
  8. Checks whether the Headlight/ Hazard light is ON/OFF.
  9. Monitors whether the driver used turning indicators.
  10. Front camera captures the video information
  11. Stores above parameters for one week except the video information, which is stored of the last 5 frames.
  12. All information can be downloaded on a PC.
  13. Enclosed in a small unbreakable shockproof box, so that it remains safe even after the accident.

SOFTWARE FEATURES
  1. The software has been development for Windows platform.
  2. The data from the black box will be downloaded when a user sends a request REQ signal along with Vehicle ID. On receipt of this signal the black box will send an ACK signal to acknowledge the receipt of REQ signal After receiving the ACK signal the software will send a RDY ready state signal and thereafter the black box start sending the data stored in its memory.
  3. The software will maintain a database to register each vehicle for which data has to be downloaded.
  4. The users can access old files for analysis and report generation.
  5. The software application will provide data back-up facility.
  6. The software application will have a well-documented help system, to provide users full help about the application and its features.
  7. Data acquisition from COM port.

  9. Data is received on PC in binary form. But to read that Data, it is converted in text form.

Technology for Black Box is ready and is available for transfer. Interested parties may send in their expression of interest.
